Les Valls d’Àneu, a sub-county of Pallars Sobirà with an area of 407.49 km² and 1873 inhabitants, are located at the head of the Noguera Pallaresa, in the northern most part of the Pallars Sobirà. It is bounded on the north by the French department of Ariège, on the west by the Val d’Aran, on the east by the Vall de Cardós and on the south by the municipality of Llavorsí.
From a geographical point of view, its location in the heart of the Axial Pyrenees has shaped the territory into a true natural paradise.
The orientation of the relief and the considerable differences in altitude give the area a climatic diversity characterized by a Mediterranean climate at the bottom of the valley and an alpine climate with Atlantic influence in the higher areas. There are usually mild summers and dry, cold winters, with short springs and autumns.
Administratively, the territory is structured in 4 municipalities: Alt Àneu, Espot, Esterri d’Àneu and La Guingueta d’Àneu, with a total of 24 villages.
